The email mailing list (listserv) is the heart of Doculink. It is where our subscribers post messages and discuss everything and anything related to documentary filmmaking. DOCULINKers throw out questions about equipment, editing systems, issues they are thinking about; information about screenings, funding sources, jobs; and articles about the state of documentary filmmaking today, among other things.

The general guidelines we have for our mailing list are please be respectful of people's time, please be courteous to others, and please keep your posts related to documentary films and documentary filmmaking.

Subscribing to the list

To subscribe, visit http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/doculink/ You'll need to create a Yahoo login and password if you don't already have one in order to join the group. In the "Comment to Owner" field, please be sure to tell us a little bit about yourself, your involvement in the documentary field, and why you would like to join the group (200 characters maximum).

Alternately, you can send a blank email to DOCULINK-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You will then receive a confirmation email with a special link that you must click on to join the list. (Do not just reply to this e-mail as that won't enable you to send us a comment.) After clicking on the link, you'll be able to set your subscription options, and you will also see the "Comment to Owner" field. Please be sure to tell us a little bit about yourself, your involvement in the documentary field, and why you would like to join the group (200 characters maximum).

Organizing Your E-Mail & "Daily Digest" Mode

You will receive a lot of Doculink e-mail. There can be anywhere from 5-35+ messages per day. Here are some tips to organize all of the new e-mail that you will receive:

a) Create a separate e-mail folder & automatically filter your Doculink messages into that folder. It's up to you to figure out how to do this on your particular e-mail system, but we can assure you that it's relatively easy whether you read your e-mail online through a service like gmail, or whether you download your messages to Outlook, Entourage or Mail, etc.

b) Set your Doculink subscription to "DAILY DIGEST" mode which means you'll receive only one or two e-mails per day containing all of that day's messages. You can switch to "DAILY DIGEST" mode by sending a blank e-mail from the address where you receive your Doculink messages to doculink-digest@yahoogroups.com with the subject line "Email Delivery: Digest". Alternately, you can visit http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/doculink/ and log in to change your subscription options at any time. Once you've logged in, click on the link that says "edit membership" and adjust the "message delivery" option to "daily digest". (The "edit membership" link is located just above the blue rectangle that says "doculink · A Community of Documentary Filmmakers".) Please be patient - it can take several hours or even a day or so for the changes to take effect.
